Need solution for "Manifest merger failed with multiple errors" - java

I trying to user multiple module android project to work on my application and when I try to build the project. the project build fails with Manifest merge failures. I need help to resolve this issue.
I already tried changing the dependencies in Gradle files and tried rearranging them, searched other solutions in this and here as well, but none of them helped
my AndroidManifest.xml file
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.atomnest.chitfund">
<application
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#mipmap/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:roundIcon="#mipmap/ic_launcher_round"
android:supportsRtl="true"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme"
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory" />
</manifest>
since the project is not build successfully I'm not able to add any activity to the project
and my build.gradle File
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
buildscript {
ext {
support_version = '1.0.2'
}
repositories {
mavenCentral()
}
}
android {
compileSdkVersion 28

}

implementation 'com.firebase:geofire-android:2.1.1'
implementation project(':utility')
implementation project(':library')
}
I am expecting to get the project build successfully and be able to launch the app in the emulator. pls help
here is the logcat image

If you are using androidx then you have to use all libraries compatible with androidx so you can use this code:-
In gradle.build (app) add this
compileSdkVersion 28
defaultConfig {
......
minSdkVersion 21
targetSdkVersion 28
......
}
And there are some implementations required to use androidx :-
implementation 'androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.1.0-alpha01'
implementation 'androidx.legacy:legacy-support-v4:1.0.0'
And add these given two lines(below) to gradle.properties:-
android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true

Solution 1:
Suggestion: add 'tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"' to
element at AndroidManifest.xml to override.
If you added the tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory" and still got trouble by fixing it, create a new project, copy-paste the codes and the same dependencies in there. After that, it should be fixed i hope.
If it didn't solve the issue, try adding these two:
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
android:appComponentFactory="whateverString"
In AndroidManifest.xml > <application tag of course.
Solution 2:
Add below two lines in gradle.properties
android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true
You can also follow below link:
https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/migrate
Do let me know if you get any problem.

Actually I had the same issue.In my case it was butterknife. I changed the dependency into 8.8.1 and it works fine for me.

firstly my module build.gradle was like this:

which resulted in this warning:
" The app gradle file must have a dependency on com.google.firebase:firebase-core for Firebase services to work as intended. "
so i tried to add it in (and updated firestore as well)

but got this error
" Manifest merger failed : Attribute application#appComponentFactory value=(android.support.v4.app.CoreComponentFactory) from [com.android.support:support-compat:28.0.0] AndroidManifest.xml:22:18-91

How do i fix it? I've tried out a few solutions found here but to no avail.. Thanks in advance! Let me know if any other codes are needed!!
You are using the latest version of firestore:
com.google.firebase:firebase-firestore:21.4.2
and on June 2019, firebase started supporting androidX, therefore you need to migrate to androidX to be able to use firebase.
The updated libraries will not work unless you make the following changes in your app:
Upgrade com.android.tools.build:gradle to v3.2.1 or later.
Upgrade compileSdkVersion to 28 or later.
Update your app to use Jetpack (AndroidX); follow the instructions in Migrating to AndroidX.
Check how to migrate:
https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/migrate
Actually, for the same library, you have different versions via different sources, You have support library as well as their AndroidX version, For Now, you can try solving it using
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory
attribute as given in your error itself.
Go to your AndroidManifest file add this attribute like below.
<application
android:name=".AbcApplication"
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory
>
</application>
for me i have add two attribute in AndroidMenifest.xml
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
android:appComponentFactory="androidx"
full tag it like :
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#mipmap/logo"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:roundIcon="#mipmap/logo"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme"
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
android:appComponentFactory="androidx"
tools:ignore="GoogleAppIndexingWarning">
and your project should be in Androidx.

Manifest merger failed with multiple errors, see logs on Android Studio

The error says that "Error:Execution failed for task ':app:processDebugManifest'. > "
I have tried many solutions on this website but still, the problem is not solved. Please help me

Merging Errors: Error: tools:replace specified at line:5 for attribute
android:appComponentFactory, but no new value specified app main
manifest (this file), line 4 Error: Validation failed, exiting app
main manifest (this file)
For me, the solution was to just migrate to AndroidX.
On Android Studio, go to:
Refactor > Migrate to AndroidX
clean the project.
I.m delete this
tools:ignore="GoogleAppIndexingWarning",
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
and fix this problem.good luck :)
Just remove the below line:
tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
And recompile and finally it works for me!
you should try this:
1:Remove tools:replace="android:appComponentFactory"
2:Provide new value for android:appComponentFactory" attribute
from:
Manifest merger failed, error on compiling
it worked for me!
solve my problem
Refactor > Migrate to AndroidX
In my case an error in Manifest file brought about this error at the time of generating apk although app was building flawlessly.
It was want of explicit 'exported' attribute in activity elements in Manifest file. after that apk too generated successfully .

Error when Multidex Enabled

I've recently had to enable multidex in my android studio project, this is built with imported module. It's doing well in the main project, but showing multidex problem in the project built with imported(from the main project) module. I have followed this documentation to enable multidex. As the application tag is not overridden , so i've followed the method related. Now i'm getting this error:
Execution failed for task ':app:transformClassesWithMultidexlistForDebug'.
java.io.IOException: Can't write [E:\something\SalesDemo >Updated\app\build\intermediates\multi-dex\debug\componentClasses.jar] (Can't >read [E:\something\SalesDemo >Updated\app\build\intermediates\classes\debug(;;;;;;**.class)] (Can't read [com] >(Can't read [smth] (Can't read [infolinkplus] (Can't read
[some.class] (Duplicate zip entry
[com/abc/def/some.class]))))))
Here's my build.gradle:
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
//noinspection GroovyMissingReturnStatement
android {
compileSdkVersion 25
// buildToolsVersion "24.0.0"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.abc.def.somethingotherthing"
multiDexEnabled true
minSdkVersion 16
//noinspection OldTargetApi
targetSdkVersion 22
versionCode 16
versionName "0.0.16"
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled true
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
//implementation 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.3'
compile fileTree(include: ['*.jar'], dir: 'libs')
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
compile 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.3'
compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:25.2.0'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25.2.0'
compile 'joda-time:joda-time:2.3'
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-location:10.2.0'
compile project(':infolinkplus')
}
And the manifest file:
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
package="com.abc.def.somethingotherthing">
<application
android:name="android.support.multidex.MultiDexApplication"
android:allowBackup="true"
android:icon="#drawable/ic_launcher"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme"
tools:ignore="AllowBackup,GoogleAppIndexingWarning">
...
//ACTIVITIES AND META-TAGS
...
</application>
</manifest>
After changes, i ran clean build and rebuilt but no result.
How can i overcome this problem? Thanks in advance.
You have to change your Manifest to provide MultiDex:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.myapp">
<application
android:name="android.support.multidex.MultiDexApplication" >
...
</application>
</manifest>
or if you have custom Application class, you have to extend it with MultiDexApplication
public class MyApplication extends MultiDexApplication { ... }
Duplicate zip entry
[com/abc/def/some.class]
In your project you must be having a class with name some.class rename it to some thing else
Try this code...
i hope you done this things..
multiDexEnabled true
compile 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.1'
make class for application level..
public class MyApplication extends MultiDexApplication {
#Override
public void onCreate() {
super.onCreate();
}
}
android:name="MyApplication" > // here define that class name that extends by MultiDexApplication

Why is my application only compatible with 14 devices on google play?

I am editing an App code. Only the front.
I am facing with the problem that the application runs over any device in debug mode, but, once I upload to google play the application is just comptible with 14 devices. ¿14? ¿Really?. I dont understand. It is very weird.
This is what is google showing me: https://imgur.com/a/R8Rgj
This all I have declared app use in the manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.CAMERA" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.VIBRATE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" />
This is de app build.gradle:
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
packagingOptions {
exclude 'LICENSE.txt'
exclude 'META-INF/LICENSE'
exclude 'META-INF/LICENSE.txt'
exclude 'META-INF/NOTICE'
}

compile 'ch.acra:acra:4.5.0'
compile 'com.android.support:support-v4-preferencefragment:1.0.0#aar'
}
IDK if there is another place where could be limiting the devices.
IDK if it is a peace af code doing this. The first time I am facing it.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE
As you can see in the pic, the platform only refers to x86_64. iDK if this is the problem. If it is the case, any idea how to solve it? please?
As of 9/10/2017 and this answer will be outdated super fast, your app is not targeting the latest API, try targeting the API 26 Android O.
Change these and rebuild to the latest API 26 and update the dependencies
compileSdkVersion
buildToolsVersion
targetSdkVersion
Right now Google supports the SDK on 14+ minimum SDK.So,it is generally preferriable to make youa apps minimum SDK to 14.Many of the apps SDK is functional and better for that minimum SDK value

The Android plugin for Gradle available in Android SDK Build Tools
21.1 and higher supports multidex as part of your build configuration. Make sure you update the Android SDK Build Tools tools and the Android
Support Repository to the latest version using the SDK Manager before
attempting to configure your app for multidex.
Setting up your app development project to use a multidex configuration requires that you make a few modifications to your app development project. In particular you need to perform the following steps:
Change your Gradle build configuration to enable multidex
Modify your manifest to reference the MultiDexApplication class
Modify your app Gradle build file configuration to include the support library and enable multidex output .
android {
compileSdkVersion 23
buildToolsVersion "23.0.2"
defaultConfig {
...
minSdkVersion 19
targetSdkVersion 23
...
// Enabling multidex support.
multiDexEnabled true
}
...
}
dependencies {
compile 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.1'
}
In your manifest add the MultiDexApplication class from the multidex support library to the application element.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.android.multidex.myapplication">
<application
...
android:name="android.support.multidex.MultiDexApplication">
...
</application>
</manifest>
Edited
You can use
compile 'org.apache.httpcomponents:httpmime:4.5.1'
Read
https://developer.android.com/intl/es/tools/building/multidex.html
You have problem of multidex file so please add below dependency to your app Gradle file.
compile 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.1'
Also add this line:
defaultConfig {
applicationId 'pkg'
minSdkVersion
targetSdkVersion
versionCode
versionName
// Enable MultiDexing: https://developer.android.com/tools/building/multidex.html
multiDexEnabled true
}
Also add below in Manifest.xml :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.android.multidex.myapplication">
<application
...
android:name="android.support.multidex.MultiDexApplication">
...
</application>
</manifest>
Edited :
Try the following:
Change setting
Ctrl + Alt + S -> Compiler -> Gradle
InVM Options field write:
-Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Add in gradle
dexOptions { javaMaxHeapSize "2g" }
Thanks..!!
This issue is quite possibly due to exceeding the 65K methods dex limit imposed by Android. This problem can be solved either by cleaning the project, and removing some unused libraries and methods from dependencies in build.gradle, OR by adding multidex support.
So, If you have to keep libraries and methods, then you can enable multi dex support by declaring it in the gradle config.
defaultConfig {
// Enabling multidex support.
multiDexEnabled true
}
