Fragment gave me a white screen - java

I have built an app, which inclues an activity with two fragments. The top fragment is supposed to get two pieces of information (name and age) and insert them into a TextView in the bottom fragment. However, when I run the app, I get a white screen. Logcat shows no errors.
I added the xml files maybe the problem is there.

the code you have written is somehow incomplete, first you can not view any data because there are no data in the List list_data in the AccountFragment so the adapter is does not know where to fetch data from.
When you have data in the list then you can populate to the adapter.
I recommend you follow the best approach from the link below in case you have any problem please do let us know.
https://www.androidhive.info/2017/12/android-working-with-bottom-navigation/
And try your best to start using AndroidX in your project

Items get mixed up when changing xml attributes using the adapter class in recycle view in android

I have an adapter class which loads items dynamically and shows them in a RecyclerView. My problem is that when I swipe up and down the recycler view the images get mixed and are shown in wrong positions (i.e. in other item's view).
For example, I have an item X and another item Y. Now when I swipe up and down the image which was to be shown in item Y get shown in item X and the same happens with other attributes.
Here is my adapter class:
public class NewsAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<NewsAdapter.NewsViewHolder> {
private DatabaseReference refDNewsTable= FirebaseDatabase.getInstance().getReference().child("news_feeds");
private StorageReference refStorage = FirebaseStorage.getInstance().getReferenceFromUrl("firebase_url_comes_here");
private Context mContext;
private List<NewsModel> newsList;
public class NewsViewHolder extends RecyclerView.ViewHolder {
public TextView nHeading, nDes,nDaTi;
public ImageView nImg;
public NewsViewHolder(View view) {
super(view);
nHeading = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.tv_newsHeadline);
nDes = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.tv_nDes);
nImg = (ImageView) view.findViewById(R.id.iv_nImg);
nDaTi=(TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.tv_nDaTi);
}
}
public NewsAdapter(Context mContext, List<NewsModel> newsList) {
this.mContext = mContext;
this.newsList = newsList;
}
#Override
public NewsViewHolder onCreateViewHolder(ViewGroup parent, int viewType) {
View itemView = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext())
.inflate(R.layout.news_model, parent, false);
return new NewsViewHolder(itemView);
}
#Override
public void onBindViewHolder(final NewsViewHolder holder, int position) {
NewsModel news = newsList.get(position);
holder.nHeading.setText(news.getnHeading());
if(news.hasDes()) {
holder.nDes.setText(news.getnDes());
}else{
holder.nDes.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
if(news.hasImg()){
// Reference to an image file in Firebase Storage
StorageReference imgReference =refStorage.child(news.getnId());
// Load the image using Glide
Glide.with(mContext)
.using(new FirebaseImageLoader())
.load(imgReference)
.into(holder.nImg);
}else{
holder.nImg.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
holder.nDaTi.setText(news.getnDaTi());
}
public void downloadFile(final NewsViewHolder holder){
try {
final File localFile = File.createTempFile("images", "jpg");
refStorage.getFile(localFile).addOnSuccessListener(new OnSuccessListener<FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot>() {
#Override
public void onSuccess(FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot taskSnapshot) {
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(localFile.getAbsolutePath());
holder.nImg.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
}
}).addOnFailureListener(new OnFailureListener() {
#Override
public void onFailure(#NonNull Exception exception) {
}
});
} catch (IOException e ) {}
}
#Override
public int getItemCount() {
return newsList.size();
}
}
And this is my news_model.xml file:

<!-- SHOULD I PUT ANOTHER ADVIEW IN THIS XML -->
</RelativeLayout>
Here is all my java classes:
MainActivity.java
public class MainActivity extends FragmentActivity {
//View Pager
ViewPager viewpager;
//AdView
AdView adView;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
viewpager = (ViewPager)findViewById(R.id.pager);
PagerAdapter pAdapter = new PagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
viewpager.setAdapter(pAdapter);
}
public void onClickCopy(View v)
{
//Copy Text From layout_one to Clipboard
}
public void onClickPaste(View v)
{
//Paste Text From Clipboard
}
}
PagerAdapter.java
public class PagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
public PagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm) {
super(fm);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int arg0) {
switch (arg0) {
case 0:
return new FragmentOne();
case 1:
return new FragmentTwo();
default:
break;
}
return null;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return 2;
}
}
FragmentOne.java
public class FragmentOne extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
return inflater.inflate(R.layout.layout_one, container, false);
}
}
FragmentTwo.java
public class FragmentTwo extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
return inflater.inflate(R.layout.layout_two, container, false);
}
}
Where would I put this code so that when they swipe between layout_one and layout_two that the same ad will be displayed and not make a new ad request every time they change views?
//Display test Ads
adView = new AdView(this);
AdRequest request = new AdRequest.Builder()
.addTestDevice("DEVICE_ID").build();
adView.loadAd(request);
The standard pattern for doing this is to put your AdView either above or below your ViewPager and keep it static. That way you are not constantly requesting ads that you never get time to display.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:id="#+id/pager">
</android.support.v4.view.ViewPager>
<com.google.android.gms.ads.AdView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="0"
android:adUnitId="yourAdUnitId"
android:id="#+id/adView">
</LinearLayout>
This way your Adview is outside your ViewPager and remains constant across all pages.
I use the following code to cache Admob in scroll Grid View:
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
if (position != adNum) {
...
} else {
if (mAdView == null) {
frameLayout = new FrameLayout(mContext);
mAdView = new AdView(mContext);
...
frameLayout.addView(mAdView);
} else {
frameLayout.removeView(mAdView);
frameLayout = new FrameLayout(mContext);
frameLayout.addView(mAdView);
}
return frameLayout;
}
}

android null object reference, despite being present

I have an MainActivity that basically has a framelayout that has different fragments sitting it in depending on what the user is doing.
activity_main.xml
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" android:paddingLeft="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingBottom="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:orientation="vertical" tools:context=".MainActivity">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#27b"
android:layout_weight=".04">
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/activity_main_framelayout">
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_weight=".9"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#1B5F96"
android:layout_weight=".9"
android:id="#+id/activity_main_status_title"
android:text="#string/activity_main_status_title"
tools:ignore="NestedWeights" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#AD3333"
android:layout_weight=".15"
android:id="#+id/activity_main_status_value"
android:text="#string/activity_main_status_value"/>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
The problem starts with an interface method void WillYouAccept(final String caller)
#Override
public void WillYouAccept(final String caller) {
Connection f = new Connection();
ShiftView(f);
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
Connection b = (Connection) getFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.layout.connection_display);
b.updateInitiator(caller);
}
});
}
The line b.updateInitiator(caller); is what initiates the null object reference error. ShiftView has basically been swapping out fragments into the framelayout for me, and so far has worked well.
#Override
public void ShiftView(Object obj) {
FragmentTransaction ft = getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
ft.replace(R.id.activity_main_framelayout, (Fragment) obj);
ft.setTransition(FragmentTransaction.TRANSIT_FRAGMENT_OPEN);
ft.addToBackStack(null);
ft.commit();
}
Basically a textview in connection_display.xml(Connection.java) needs to be updated from the MainActivity, and somehow initiator = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.textView_connection_display_initiator_ID); is null when it is being interacted with from MainActivity.
Connection.java
package "";
import android.app.Activity;
import android.app.Fragment;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.TextView;
public class Connection extends Fragment {
MiddleMan mCallBack;
Button accept;
Button deny;
TextView initiator;
#Override
public void onAttach(Activity activity) {
super.onAttach(activity);
try {
mCallBack = (MiddleMan) activity;
} catch (ClassCastException e) {
throw new ClassCastException(activity.toString() + " must implement ReqestConnect");
}
}
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.connection_display, container, false);
mCallBack.DisplayHome();
initiator = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.textView_connection_display_initiator_ID);
accept = (Button) view.findViewById(R.id.button_connection_display_ACCEPT);
accept.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
buttonAccept();
}
});
deny = (Button) view.findViewById(R.id.button_connection_display_DENY);
deny.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
buttonDeny();
}
});
return view;
}
private void buttonAccept() {
System.out.println("Accept Button Pressed");
}
private void buttonDeny() {
System.out.println("Deny Button Pressed");
}
public void updateInitiator(final String s) {
initiator.setText(s);
}
}

b was definitely turning up as null, however the bit above had always found the fragment, so I solved it with this:
#Override
public void WillYouAccept(final String caller) {
final Connection f = new Connection();
ShiftView(f);
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
f.updateInitiator(caller);
}
});
}
