How to access office local server files through an java swing app?
I have an Java application made using Swing. Using this app I am taking data from user and storing it in a file.
Now, currently the data stored is being stored in user's system only. Now I have a local office server, I want to dynamically add data to that file whenever users inputs some data through that app, so that whenever i want to access that file, i can see all the users data that have been input through that app.
I have searched on net, but everywhere either FTP sever or cloud is being discussed and both are not allowed. How to tackle this problem ?

I have a google application engine (java) that requires to store some images. I tried using Blobs and storing them in datastore but as you know there is a size limit on data that can be stored in datastore.
So as result I'm storing the images on a different server and store the path in my datastore and all works fine.
Now I'm thinking on using a google drive folder instead of using a server to upload the files to the drive and using the share link to display them later.
I've seen https://developers.google.com/drive/web/quickstart/java and got it to work fine. When I try to use it in my application however obviously this won't work as the code is assuming a credential for a local user.
I created a service key on my application and want to change the sample code above to use it but I'm not sure if that's the correct approach.
Tried searching for samples but can't find anyone that takes the same approach. Is there a working sample that shows how to authenticate an application not a user and let's say store a file in google drive?
I've also seen https://developers.google.com/drive/web/examples/ please note what I want is to store files in my google drive and not the user's google drive. So if user A and user B come to my app, they shouldn't have to authorize my application and should both be able to upload a file to my google drive.
I don't know if this can be done directly from their browser or I have to move the file to my application (appspot) and then push it to google drive.

I have an android application, which wants the user to login each time he runs the app. So, the login procedure is simple, using the sqlite dabase file i'm using. I've copied the file in assets folder and doing the necessary modifications. But, the database file is of no use unless it is on the server. I don't have any server so i'm thinkin of keeping the database file on dropbox, google drive etc and then read or update that file as per user commands. The question is how to do that? I was searching the web for it, and found that the only way is downloading the db file modifying it and the uploading it back. Can anyone give me an example??
Doing that isn't possible unless you have a server.
Because, if you are using dropbox, first you'll have to make your file public in order to download it (Not recommended at all. Compromises security). Then you can use the url to download the file. But you won't be able to upload it back (Unless you are able to login to dropbox through your Android code).
Instead if you a web server with MySQL n PHP, you can easily send POST requests to your server.
I'm developing an application which copy PDF files to server. My swing application scan and label the documents which are scanned then copy to server. There are two roles doctypesA read and write,doctypesB read and write. I stored roles in database and handle this rights from my swing application. When user use my application there isn't any problem because ı can control, total 200 users approx. But my problem is that anyone who knows the link on server SEVER\MYDOCS\doctypesa\doc.pdf can see it. It is intranet application, how can i restrict folder in this situtation.

I am new to Java and Android. I am just beginning work on an app that will save information to a server that someone else from within the same company can retrieve using the same app from a different android device. I know how to simply store data on a server using simple php scripts but this is a bit more complex and involves one user writing information to the server, while another user can see / download it. Within a company there would be multiple users who have acceess to this data. So my question would be, whats the best way to implement a company-wide database that ONLY members of the same company can have access to? Sorry if this seems obvious to some of you. I am just getting started and I have 7 books on android programming and none of them describe how to do quite what I am trying to do.
To do this you need to use Android network services to access data. In other words to retrieve a networked database information your device will connect to your service with a specified URL and arguments. In turn, the service will reply with the required data, say may be in XML format. All your app needs to do is parse the XMl and display the date as desired.
Same thing applies to putting data into the server, in this case however the data will be sent as arguments to the network service URL and the service will handle the persistence to a database.
My advise is to do a Google search of the keyword "Android Network Services".
I have a small linux vps. I have written a Java client application, which needs to connect and submit large string data and images. The string data will be stored as regular text files on the server, and will be parsed by another Java application that will run on the server and use this uploaded files and images.
The next part of the problem is, because this Java client will be run by several users, I need some way to uniquely identify each uploaded file to the currently logged in user session on the website (the user needs to login on the website, to be able to run the tasks). Any suggestions or more efficient patterns ?
Don't write the stuff to files. Punch the uploaded data into 'raw' database tables by user ID. The batch job job can pull the data out, parse/format/fold/spindle/mutilate, and stuff the results into the real tables, then delete the raw data.
