Parse date with groovy using spring boot - java

I create a project with spring boot and groovy,
I wanna parse a date but I dont understand why i got error.
For example i created a basic class for parse a Date
This is my class
class Test {
public static void main(String ...args){
String oldDate = '04-DEC-2012'
Date date = Date.parse( 'dd-MMM-yyyy', oldDate )
String newDate = date.format( 'M-d-yyyy' )
}
}
I got the error,
Exception in thread "main" groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: static java.util.Date.parse() is applicable for argument types: (String, String) values: [dd-MMM-yyyy, 04-DEC-2012]
Possible solutions: parse(java.lang.String), wait(), clone(), any(), grep(), use([Ljava.lang.Object;)

Its possible that I need some extra configuration ?
I read some post I only need Date.parse("format","date")
but for some reason I dont understand what i am doing wrong

Add the groovy date-util package
https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.codehaus.groovy/groovy-dateutil

I change the version of groovy from 2.5.8 to 3.0.0-alpha-1 and the problem was resolved
So that I modified my pom.xml file
I delete this dependency
<dependency>
<groupId>org.codehaus.groovy</groupId>
<artifactId>groovy</artifactId>
</dependency>
I add this line
<dependency>
<groupId>org.codehaus.groovy</groupId>
<artifactId>groovy</artifactId>
<version>3.0.0-alpha-1</version>
</dependency>
I never had add the depency date-util .
Thanks to everyone for your support

IntelliJIDEA show a type mismatch error with JPA (hibernate H2 dialect) but the code compile

This is what my IDE (IntelliJ IDEA) show me:
However seems that, when I compile, I don't have any errors! The startime variable is an OffsetDateTime variable.
Why an error is showed inside my IDE?
UPDATE
I also tried to restart the IDE and invalidate the cache but nothing happened.
This is my pom.xml file with all the dependecies:

CAST is a function that allows casting a database value to a specific database type:
Use CAST to convert a value to a specific database type.
Usage
The CAST function is database independent, but requires database
support.
The cleanest and error free way of handling such a query is to provide an alternative taking as argument the type respectively matching the stored value, which would be OffsetDateTime in your case, combined with conversion patterns depending on your business logic:
#Query("SELECT t FROM Transaction t WHERE t.userId = ?1
AND t.startTime BETWEEN ?2 AND ?3")
List<Transaction> getUserTransactionsBetweenTwoDates(final Long userId,
final OffsetDateTime begin, final OffsetDateTime end);
Otherwise, you can still cast the resulting OffsetDateTime value, which is TIMESTAMP, to sql type DATE:
#Query("SELECT t FROM Transaction t WHERE t.userId = ?1 AND (CAST(t.startTime AS DATE)) BETWEEN ?2 AND ?3")
List<Transaction> getUserTransactionsBetweenTwoDates(final Long userId, final LocalDate begin, final LocalDate end);

Why isn't JUnit4 imports recognized even though JUnit4 is in my effective pom.xml?

I am getting build errors in my Eclipse project like the following:
import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals;
The import org.junit.Assert cannot be resolved
But if you see the effective pom.xml, the JUnit4 dependency is there:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<version>4.13</version>
</dependency>
The error disappears if I add this dependency explicitly to my pom.xml.
Why is that the case ? If its already there shouldn't it be used ?
This is my pom.xml

The dependency you have mentioned is in the dependencyManagement and not in the dependencies. That means you have to simply write the dependency but without version (that will be controlled by the spring-boot parent) of course you have to add the scope:test like this:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
Spring Boot is using JUnit 5 and if you want to run your JUnit4 tests with mvn test you have to remove the exclusion:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>org.junit.vintage</groupId>
<artifactId>junit-vintage-engine</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
The vintage engine runs the JUnit4 tests.
And as khmarbaise you have to add Junit 4 that your test compiles:
<dependency>
<groupId>junit</groupId>
<artifactId>junit</artifactId>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>

How to solve Gson builder error when starting a Spring Boot application

I am writing a new Spring Boot application and I need to use one package which has been developed by my team. This package has older Gson dependency somewhere down the hierarchy (which I could not find), therefore while running my application following error was thrown :
NoSuchMethodError: com.google.gson.GsonBuilder.setLenient()Lcom/google/gson/GsonBuilder.
I tried to
Specify the Gson dependency exclusively in my pom, so as to enforce the latest version
Add the dependency in DependencyManagement section
Exclude the Gson dependency as follows :
<dependency>
<groupId>com.mycompany</groupId>
<artifactId>services</artifactId>
<version>${version}</version>
<exclusions>
<exclusion>
<groupId>com.google.code.gson</groupId>
<artifactId>gson</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
All three options did not work. finally I was able to get my application running by excluding GsonAutoConfiguration.
Questions I am desperately trying to understand here:
Why the earlier options did not work
If I am skipping Gson AutoConfiguration, what am I losing and how can I achieve that?
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just updated the pom.XML, I updated it from JAR to war and run it as WAR and it worked, I executed it JAVA -jar APPLICATION_NAME.jar, and it worked like charm.
Hope this will help others as well.
