Multi module maven project with Quarkus in dev mode - java

I am not able to run my multi module project with quarkus in dev mode.
Here is my problem. We are currently switching from wildfly to quarkus on a multi module maven project. I am able to run quarkus in dev mode (with quarkus:dev) if I have only one quarkus module. But as soon as I have 2 modules the dev mode is not working.
Here is my root pom:
<modules>
<module>lib1</module>
<module>quarkus-module1</module>
<module>quarkus-module2</module>
</modules>

When I run the following command on the root pom
mvn clean package quarkus:dev
Maven build lib1, quarkus-module1 and run quarkus-module1 in dev mode but it seems that querkus-module2 (build and dev mode) is blocked until dev mode of quarkus-module1 is stopped (with ctrl C).
Is there a way to run quarkus-module1 and quarkus-module2 in dev mode at the same time ?
I am using quarkus 2.15.3.Final with a JDK 11 (mandrel).
For information the two modules needs quarkus because in prod they are deployed in two distinct docker images and communicates using REST API.
As I said, I am able to run in dev mode with only lib1 and quarkus-module1 but as soon as I add quarkus-module2 I am not able to have simultaneously quarkus-module1 and quarkus-module2 in dev mode

Why maven use the old version of the Vaadin plug-in when I run the project in IntelliJ?

I use Wildfly 20 and IntelliJ latest version with vaadin-maven-plugin 14.2.2 in my pom.xml and pnpm enabled.
A very ugly problem happens what I can't understand why.
When I run my project via IntelliJ run configuration something strange happens. IntelliJ uses an older version of vaadin-plugin namely vaadin-maven-plugin 14.2.0 which I don't have it in my pom.xml.
I have already tried mvn help:effective-pom to see if multiple versions of this dependency exists in pom and also checked all transitive dependencies using mvn dependency:tree
Anyone knows why this happens and what should I do to prevent it?

If I remove pluginManagement from pom then Jar is getting created.
My guess is that you just wrapped your <plugins> tag in a <pluginManagement> tag, which does not do what you want. I suggest you read the documentation to understand the relationship between plugin and pluginManagement. See also another post on StackOverflow.
As to your underlying problem: I guess the error you mention is an Eclipse error. It is emitted by the m2e plugin which requires a connector for each maven plugin in your pom.
You can usually come up with a connector (if it is not found on the Eclipse Marketplace) by typing " m2e connector" into your favorite search engine.
In this case you might want to install this: https://github.com/beskow/openjpa-maven-connector

maven user library not packaged in my runnable jar

I'm now programming Java for a year and had to take over several projects from a previous programmer. I'm not a programming newby since I started with .NET programming in 1998. Now for a Java project, I need to support 24 versions (and rising) of a base library (all the same structure but they are specific for a version of the 3th party application).
I started with Maven two days ago and tried this on a small demo workspace in order to learn Maven and get the required things working.
Each supported version has several jars which I encapsulated in a user library.
To make a build, I would need to modify this library to the correct version and do an export of the project as a Runnable-Jar (everything include in the jar due to license requirements).
So I created my first POM and here it is:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

As you can see, I have two profiles. One for v8.1 and one for v7.0.
My 'build' flow:
I run 'mvn install' on the libraryProject first.
Then I run 'mvn package' on the main project. This one build v8.1 (Default profile) as a runnable jar with all depencies in it except the user library.
The next call is 'mvn package -PPPC_7.0' which builds v7.0 without the user library.
So my question: What can I change/doing wrong so the user library is added to the runnable jar for each profile?
Thanks in advance,
Jo

Good luck!
Robby Cornelissen commented a suggestion a while back:
Any chance of just packaging that up and using it as a dependency? That would definitely solve your problem... – Robby Cornelissen Jun 11 at 8:52
I didn't want to do that, but I did not receive new suggestions (and did not find a solution myself).
So I packaged them as suggested and added them as dependency.
This is working for me now.
Thanks and until next time
Jo

In this moment, in the Markers tab on my Eclipse IDE, this error is being presented:
Description Resource Path Location Type
Dynamic Web Module 3.0 requires Java 1.6 or newer. example line 1 Maven Java EE Configuration Problem
One or more constraints have not been satisfied. example line 1 Maven Java EE Configuration Problem
I try fix this configuration in the Build path from my project (In Properties/Java Build Path), but when I run Maven > Update Project, the value for this option returned to the previous one.
Where I should change this option to fix this error?
Go to project Build Path and change the Java Library version to 1.7
Go to Eclipse Preferences -> Java -> Compiler -> Change compliance level to 1.7
Right click on project -> Properties -> Project Facets
Uncheck Dynamic Web Module and click Apply (also uncheck JavaServer Faces if you had that)
Change the Java facet version to 1.7 and click Apply
Add the Dyanmic Web Module v3.0, apply.
Eclipse's facets configuration is buggy. Make sure you keep hitting Apply between checking and unchecking of facets.

GGrec's solution doesn't work for me. I manage to fixed this issue by adding to pom.xml this:
<build>
<finalName>finalName</finalName>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.8</source> <!-- yours Java version -->
<target>1.8</target> <!-- yours Java version -->
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
UPDATE:
In addition I figured out that everytime you run mvn install command on this pom.xml it overrides previous configuration. The right solution is either remove this version from pom.xml and set it up in eclipse options or just use configuration from pom.xml.
After following above troubleshooting steps. Update your maven project.
Right click on your project--> Maven--> Update Project
Or simply Alt+f5.
Hope this might help someone.
Also as Kefas I am specify java version to 1.7 and it works!
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.7</source>
<target>1.7</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
The above suggests is helpful for me!
Right click on project -> Properties -> Project Facets, then change the Java facets version to 1.7.
If it doesn't work, add the following code to pom.xml:
<build>
<finalName>finalName</finalName>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.7</source> <!-- yours Java version -->
<target>1.7</target> <!-- yours Java version -->
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
Save pom.xml.
And then, right click on project-->Maven-->Update Project.
This might sound silly but I just did Project->Clean and then Maven->Update.
Solved the problem.
Changed version to 3.1 and the tags and to 1.7
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.7</source>
<target>1.7</target>
</configuration>
I am using java 1.8. Fixed doing the following.
Remove from pom:
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.5.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.8</source>
<target>1.8</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
It will complain that pom is not up to date.
Used quick fix to update then you get a whole bunch of errors.
RE-ADD to pom:
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.5.1</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.8</source>
<target>1.8</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
Updated maven and all errors are cleared.
This works for me:
<build>
<pluginManagement>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.3</version>
<configuration>
<source>1.8</source>
<target>1.8</target>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-war-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.6</version>
<configuration>
<warSourceDirectory>src/main/webapp</warSourceDirectory>
<warName>mfp</warName>
<failOnMissingWebXml>false</failOnMissingWebXml>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</pluginManagement>
<finalName>myprojectname</finalName>
</build>
I had to reset maven settings in Window->Preferences->Maven-> User Settings to "C:\Development\apache-maven-3.5.3\conf\settings.xml".
The Right Answer is : - Just a Simple thing
Most of times you cant change the Dynamic Web Module Version to 3.0 .. it must be default set to 2.3 or 2.4 or else. Its not gonna work
right click on project-> preference -> project facet -> uncheck dynamic web module and change the version to 3.0 then check it. and i think you have to change the latest version for ( i.e: 1.7 or higher ) that . after that click apply and close button.
then update the maven project.. right click on project select maven -> update project.
still the error will continue for 80% of us..
The Real Solution is here
1> go to you work space folder
2> then go to your project folder
3> check for .settings file (sometimes it may be hidden then unhide it..(so rare chance )
4> Go into that .settings file then check for org.eclipse.wst.common.project.facet.core.xml file and edit with notepad++ or some thing like that..enter code here
5>this is the code inside that
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<faceted-project>
<fixed facet="wst.jsdt.web"/>
<installed facet="java" version="1.5"/>
<installed facet="jst.web" version="2.4"/>
<installed facet="wst.jsdt.web" version="1.0"/>
</faceted-project>
change the jst.web version to 3.0 like this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<faceted-project>
<fixed facet="wst.jsdt.web"/>
<installed facet="java" version="1.5"/>
<installed facet="jst.web" version="3.0"/>
<installed facet="wst.jsdt.web" version="1.0"/>
</faceted-project>
then finally update the maven .. then restart the eclipse or another IDE
I have added below line of code in pom.xml and it worked.
<properties>
<maven-jar-plugin.version>3.1.1</maven-jar-plugin.version>
</properties>

Avoid Maven profiles to generate duplicated jars

I'm new to Maven and I'm trying to configure Maven to generate 2 jars: one for development and one for production. The only difference between them is a config.properties file that have the database connection different so I thought I could use Maven profiles.
To my surprise I can't generate both files at once. When using profiles, each time you build you have to select the profile and a jar (in my case) will be created using the profile. The thing is that it will create 2 exactly equals jars, one without a classifier and one with the classifier (like myjar.jar and myjar-prod.jar) so if I want to generate the dev and the prod jar I have to create 4 jars (running first Maven with one profile and after that with another profile)
Why is this? Doesn't make any sense to me... but ok...
My question is:
Is there a way I could avoid the two jars from being generated? I mean, I want to have different profiles, and I have accepted (with grief) to execute multiple times the build process (one for each profile), could I avoid to have each time 2 jars and have only one without the classifier?
This is my pom.xml:

If you are okay with having classified jars, you may do what you want without profiles, so you may have jars for all environments with a single build command. The key is to understand how Maven filtering works.
This is expanding on an answer I provided to a similar question. Start with that setup. Then:
Create config.properties in your src/main/resources, containing properties your app needs.
my.database.url=${database.url}
my.database.user=${database.user}
my.database.pw=${database.pw}
Now, create prod.properties and dev.properties in ${basedir}/src/main/filters holding appropriate values for each environment.
database.url=URL-for-dev
database.user=user-for-dev
database.pw=pw-for-dev
When you run mvn clean package, Maven will copy the contents of /src/main/resources, including config.properties, doing property replacement during the copy. Because there are multiple executions of both resources and jar plugins, Maven will create separate classified jar files. Each will contain a config.properties file, holding the correct properties for the environment. The filters will not end up in the built jars.
I made it removing the maven jar plugin in the profile section. Changed this:
<profile>
<id>prod</id>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-antrun-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>run</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<tasks>
<!--<delete file="${project.build.outputDirectory}/config.properties"/>-->
<copy file="src/main/resources/config-prod.properties"
tofile="${project.build.outputDirectory}/config.properties"/>
</tasks>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.13</version>
<configuration>
<skip>true</skip>
</configuration>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.4</version>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>package</phase>
<goals>
<goal>jar</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<classifier>prod</classifier>
<source>1.6</source>
<target>1.6</target>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</profile>
For this:
<profile>
<id>prod</id>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-antrun-plugin</artifactId>
<executions>
<execution>
<phase>test</phase>
<goals>
<goal>run</goal>
</goals>
<configuration>
<tasks>
<!--<delete file="${project.build.outputDirectory}/config.properties"/>-->
<copy file="src/main/resources/config-prod.properties"
tofile="${project.build.outputDirectory}/config.properties"/>
</tasks>
</configuration>
</execution>
</executions>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
<version>2.13</version>
<configuration>
<skip>true</skip>
</configuration>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</profile>
