"Trying to load driver" when I add "com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver" - java

So I'm using JDBC MySQL 8.0.32, with Java 11 and Spring Boot 2.7.8. When I run "mvn spring-boot:run" it says "Trying to download driver" and I guess (and I'm sure) that it's because of com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver.
Here's the POM.xml file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Here's the application.properties file:
spring.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/med
spring.datasource.username=root
spring.datasource.password=
spring.datasource.driver-class-name=com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver
And here's where I make the connection:
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.DriverManager;
public class Database {
protected Connection con;
private String url;
private String user;
private String pass;
public Database() throws Exception{
con = null;
this.url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/med";
this.user = "root";
this.pass = "";
Class.forName("com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver");
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pass);
}
}
I've also tried refreshing the project with maven, make clean install and invalidate caches, nothing works, it's still the same. I've also checked the classpath and everything's okay.

try com.mysql.jdbc.Driver driver. Yo are using .cj.jdbc.Driver which is dependent on <artifactId>mysql-connector-j</artifactId> I think and this is why Maven is trying to download it

I'm new to Springboot, how do I fix it?
I've gotten your build to work, but I had to make some compromises.
I looked at the Spring documentation for what you are trying:
https://spring.io/guides/gs/rest-service/
Then I looked at the pom.xml for the example:
https://github.com/spring-guides/gs-rest-service/blob/master/complete/pom.xml
Despite the fact that the documentation says you can use Java 1.8 or higher, you need to use 1.8. If you go higher, you have to specify the property encoding in the plugin, and you can't do that because you are using the Spring Boot plugin rather than a plugin you can configure in the pom.xml for your project.
I also added a lower version of the maven-surefire-plugin than Spring Boot uses. With this version, you get the error [ERROR] There are test failures, but you are not running any tests.
I commented out the MySql and JPA dependencies, which won't work unless you have database connection settings.

In my case i was running the jar file when i was activated maven install. The made it unable to delete and create a new jar as one was already running. After i quit running the jar file. I was able to build the project. sometimes reading error messages helps
Try to read well the exception log in cli, after executing your "mvn spring-boot:run" command.
It can be a due to
a connection with your DB, for example mysql not started
Or started but the DB name is not correct in your application.properties file e.g. java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: Unknown database
Or even the password used of the db user is not correct in the application.properties file: e.g Caused by: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: Public Key Retrieval is not allowed
so analyze first your logs before modifying java version, xml elements in the plugin ...
Normally this follwing generic pom.xml is enough to have maven running successfully your tomcat server (embedded in spring boot):

Is there any problem with the POM.xml ?
Also below is my application.properties
server.servlet.context-path=/myapplication
I've already trid to remove the context path and rebuild it again, but it still the same.
Apparently I must append this dependency in POM.xml
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-tomcat</artifactId>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
Also I must add this
#SpringBootApplication
public class SpringBootTomcatApplication extends SpringBootServletInitializer {
}
Now it's working thanks.

Try to add spring boot parent pom. With it you shouldn't specify starters versions - parent pom contains all information about needed versions.
<parent>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
<version>2.2.1.RELEASE</version>
</parent>
From what I can see your problem is the way you're importing the dependencies, the recommended way to do so is by using the Spring Boot's parent pom and its managed dependencies.
I recommend you to use start.spring.io to generate your next projects, here's a sample with the Spring Boot dependencies that you have, the major diff is the parent pom.
For your project, you need to add the extra dependencies such as oracle and any further configuration you have.

It was generated by https://start.spring.io/ and I inserted your Oracle dependencies and repositories.

When you face NoSuchMethodException at runtime, it generally means 'classpath hell' - e.g., for simplification, when you've got two version of the same library (one containing the method, but the other - not) and only god knows which version will actually get into your final build if you don't do anything.
To find such dependencies, you shoult run 'mvn dependency:tree' command and search for something related to 'org.springframework.boot.devtools'... => most probably you'll see two versions
Then - you should either use section of maven POM to strictly set the version, or, as guys suggested above - use spring boot parent (also, a more advanced solution is importing a BOM - which is kind of a set of rules for dependency versions).

spring websocket makes whole project returns 404

I add websocket to my normal springboot project ,both websocket server and my web api works fine in my local computer, But when I put my project to my server, not only the websocket connection url get 404, but also my web api get 404 either.
Here is my code
WebSocketConfig.java
#Configuration
public class WebSocketConfig {
#Bean
public ServerEndpointExporter serverEndpointExporter() {
return new ServerEndpointExporter();
}
}
WebSocketServer.java
#ServerEndpoint(value = "/socketServer/{carId}")
#Component
public class WebSocketServer {
private Session session;
private static Map<String, Session> sessionPool = new ConcurrentHashMap<>(16);
private static Map<String, String> sessionIds = new ConcurrentHashMap<>(16);
#OnOpen
public void onOpen(Session session, #PathParam(value = "carId") String carId) {
this.session = session;
sessionPool.put(carId, session);
sessionIds.put(session.getId(), carId);
}
#OnMessage
public void onMessage(String message) {
System.out.println(message);
}
#OnClose
public void onClose() {
sessionPool.remove(sessionIds.get(session.getId()));
sessionIds.remove(session.getId());
}
#OnError
public void onError(Session session, Throwable exception) {
exception.printStackTrace();
}
public static void sendMessage(String carId, String message) throws IOException {
Session session = sessionPool.get(carId);
if (session != null) {
session.getBasicRemote().sendText(message);
}
}

I solved my question after few tests
It seems this is the tomcat problem in your server side
Let us use the springboot inner tomcat
1.set your project packing type to jar
2.set your server.port except 80 and 8080 , I set it to 8081
3.use mvn clean package -DskipTests to package your project to jar
4.upload your jar file to your server except for the tomcat directory
5.run your code with java -jar YOURFILENAME.jar
Here is my pom.xml file after I change my code

I didn't find a solution in the web. What am I doing wrong?
try adding Spring Data Commons Core to your pom
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework.data</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-data-commons-core</artifactId>
<version>1.0.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
I had the same problem and strangely enough I solved the problem by replacing the dependency spring-data-jpa with:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-orm</artifactId>
<version>${spring.version}</version>
</dependency>
